Ultram ER is an pain medicine similar to an opioid (sometimes called, a narcotic). Ultram ER is used to treat moderate to severe pain. The extended-release form of Ultram ER is for around-the-clock treatment of pain. This form of tramadol is not for use on an as-needed basis for pain. OxyContin is a strong prescription medicine used when an opioid medicine is needed to manage severe pain enough to require daily around-the-clock, long-term treatment with an opioid, when other pain treatments such as non-opioid pain medicines or immediate-release opioid medicines do not treat your pain well enough or you cannot tolerate them. OxyContin is not to be used on an as-needed basis for pain that is not around-the-clock.

It works by enhancing the effects of a certain natural chemical in the body (GABA).

This combination medication is used to relieve moderate to severe pain. It contains an opioid (narcotic) pain reliever (hydrocodone) and a non-opioid pain reliever (acetaminophen). Hydrocodone works in the brain to change how your body feels and responds to pain. Acetaminophen can also reduce a fever. This product is not recommended for use in children younger than 6 years due to an increased risk of serious side effects (such as slow/shallow breathing).
